Outdoor lighting is very important not only to enjoy the garden comfortably, but also to feel safe. So you need lights along the paths, at the entrance gate and garage door, at the stairs, on the facade and at the front door. You can replace all this with smart technology. What is covered by this term? Check it out!

Outdoor lighting – examples and functions

To begin with a few words of introduction. We pay a lot of attention to the lighting in our home, but in all this we can not overlook the role of outdoor lighting as well. It is thanks to it that we can see what is going on in different parts of the garden, have lighted alleys, garage entrance and entrance stairs. On the other hand, properly placed lighting highlights the curves and vegetation.

When planning the purchase of lamps for the garden, we consider only those designed for outdoor use. Only then we can be sure that they will withstand variable and adverse factors, such as strong wind, temperature fluctuations, frost, rain, snow, moisture, dust and mechanical damage.

There are actually three types of garden lighting to choose from: energy-efficient, durable and long-lasting LED lights, sensor lights that turn on in specific situations (for example, when it gets dark or when they sense movement), and eco-friendly and most cost-effective solar lights, which have no wiring.

They can be driven into the ground or into pots, or mounted on the facade of the house or on the gate.

Smart, or intelligent garden lighting

We are usually keen on various technological innovations, cleaning robots, multifunctional devices for cooking, automatic dryers, controlling remotely the intensity of light in a room, temperature and many, many more. The idea is to make life as easy as possible, to improve the comfort of the household, but also to reduce electricity bills.

But it doesn’t stop there, as we can also opt for smart outdoor lighting. It used to be that only a few could afford such things. Today the prices are much more affordable. And so, with the help of remote lighting control, we decide which lamps we want to turn on, which should shine brighter and which darker, whether to give white, yellow or colored light.

In most cases, we manage everything from a smartphone. Interestingly, we don’t have to be at home or in the garden at all. All we need is an active internet connection. Wireless smart control simply uses radio waves. It is through them that transmitters and receivers send information from the control devices to the garden lights.

Smart lighting also includes the aforementioned lamps with automatic sensors. So we can program them to turn on when someone enters the garden, opens the gate and the front door. This increases the level of security when someone uninvited, such as a potential burglar, appears on the property.

Undoubtedly, the advantage of smart technology is the ability to adapt it to one’s own preferences, one’s own lifestyle. It also allows you to minimize electricity bills, because the necessary lamps are turned on and do not shine all night, but only when they are needed. The technology does not require forging walls or digging up soil in the garden. Everything works on Wi-Fi.
