Good ventilation is the basis of efficient air exchange. It is particularly important during the heating season, as it ensures the removal of pollutants and excess moisture. We suggest what you can do to improve the quality of ventilation in your home.
Why is good home ventilation so important?
Good and efficient ventilation of your home or apartment is extremely important to get rid of pollutants and moisture. The average family produces about 10 liters of moisture per day, which is equivalent to the amount of water spilled from a large bucket on the floor each day. So it’s important to maintain its optimum level, which is 40-60 percent during the winter. If the level turns out to be too high, mold and mildew are very likely to appear indoors, often causing allergies.
The simplest way to ventilate the apartment
The simplest way to ventilate the apartment, which is often forgotten in winter, is simply regular ventilation. Opening the windows every day, even for a few minutes, will help you prevent too much humidity in the air. It is also worth paying attention to the windows – the first sign of too much moisture in the room is the so-called condensation, or evaporation of glass.
To improve ventilation a bit in this way, you can install window ventilators, through which fresh air can freely flow from outside into the room and be further removed by the gravity ventilation system.
Of course, in addition to the same ventilating it is worth using different ventilation systems. The most popular in Poland is natural ventilation, also called gravitational. It uses the physical law of gravity to induce air flow. How exactly does it work? Cool air enters the room through vents and other intentional vents or leaks in windows and doors, and then mixes with the warm air in the room. Higher-temperature air has a lower density, so it rises upward and then, displaced by the cold air, escapes to the outside through ducts in ventilation stacks.
A slightly more complicated type of ventilation system is mechanical ventilation, which is a forced airflow created by the action of a ventilation device, such as anemostats, driven by an electric motor. So you have full control over the amount of air that is exchanged. This is indeed a very convenient and functional solution, which is why you should consider installing mechanical ventilation in your home, which ventilation design can help you with
Mechanical ventilation can be, for example, exhaust, supply or exhaust-vent.
How to check if your ventilation is working properly?
To make sure that the ventilation in your home is working properly, you should check it once in a while. It is very important to clean the ventilation grilles. This periodic cleaning can improve the draught up to 60%. Why is it important? Because so much draught is better when the air does not have any obstruction and enters the ventilation duct
To make sure your ventilation is doing its job, you can also opt for a hybrid system. This means classic natural ventilation, but supported by chimney caps that stabilize the draft in the chimney.
